Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj has left the club to join Real Sociedad. The 22-year-old has joined the Spanish side for an initial fee of £8 million, which could rise to £9.8 million.

The Belgian who was touted as the next Ryan Giggs failed to impress during his time at the club and had to move around Europe as a loan for a couple of seasons. Januzaj broke into the first team under David Moyes and he had a very fine season. But as soon as Moyes was sacked the Belgian’s first team chances became limited. He was eventually sent off to Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan in 2015. But the 22-year-old suffered from a lack of game time and managed to play only 12 matches in the whole season.

Januzaj then returned back to United at the end of the season but was again loaned off. This time it was to Premier League rivals, Sunderland. Even though he did manage to play 28 games this time around but the Black Cats had a horrible season which saw them being relegated to the second division.

And now that Januzaj has returned back, Mourinho clearly sees no use of him and hence he has been sold off to Sociedad. But United have included a buy-back clause in the contract meaning that they can buy back the Belgian if he were to become successful in the future.

The Football Fan Base view:

In his first season at United, everyone thought that the club have found a long-term replacement of Ryan Giggs. But eventually this has not proved to be the case and with each passing year, Januzaj has slowly and steadily faded into oblivion. So much so that the club have finally decided to seal him off.
