Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is keen to strengthen up his defense as his team will be back into the Champions League next season.

The Blues will rub shoulders with Europe’s elite once again. In order to do so, Conte wants a solid defensive backline. And it looks as if the Italian has shortlisted Van Dijk and Bonucci as his next targets.

Conte is a long-term admirer of Leonardo Bonucci having worked with the player during his managerial stint with Juventus. According to reports, Juventus will allow the defender to leave the club after news of a possible rift between the player and Massimiliano Allegri.

On the other hand, Chelsea are now the front runners for signing Van Dijk from Southampton after Liverpool pulled out of the race. A few weeks back it looked as if Liverpool were all set to sign the Dutchman. But they decided to call off the deal after the Saints accused them of foul play.

And now with Liverpool no longer a threat, Chelsea are all set to make a formal move for the player.
