Manchester City travel to Switzerland to take on FC Basel in the first leg of their Round of 16 draw in the UEFA Champions League.

On paper, this match should be one of the easier encounters of the Champions League fixtures this week but FC Basel are a force to reckon with especially at home and they have already given a tough time to the likes of Manchester United and CSKA Moscow in the group stage matches.

MAN CITY’S TEAM NEWS:

Pep Guardiola is expected to field his strongest starting eleven in Switzerland in the hopes of picking up all three points in the first leg. Second choice keeper Claudio Bravo has featured in cup games this season but given the importance of this fixture, Ederson will without a doubt be the No 1.

John Stones has reportedly returned to training after recovering from his injury but new signing Aymeric Laporte will be partnering Nicolas Otamendi in central defence.

Fabian Delph, too, has returned to training but is still not a 100 percent match fit – meaning Danilo will be in charge of left-back duties against Basel.

But the biggest bit of positive for Pep Guardiola will undoubtedly be the return of Leroy Sane. Guardiola has confirmed in his pre-match conference that the German is in contention for the FC Basel game.

Gabriel Jesus has also returned back to training and like Delph, he too is a not fully fit to play in a competitive game.

MAN CITY’S PREDICTED LINE-UP:

Goalkeeper: Ederson.

Defence: Danilo, Otamendi, Laporte, Walker.

Midfield: Fernandinho, Gundogan, De Bruyne.

Attack: Sterling, Aguero, Silva.
