Chelsea’s plans of appointing Luis Enrique as their new manager next season could very well have hit a brick wall – as per reports.

Multiple reports have claimed that the Blues are planning to sack Antonio Conte if he fails to deliver a silverware this season and also make the team qualify for the Champions League in the next. And keeping in line with these reports, a few pundits and journalists have claimed that former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique could very well succeed the Italian at Stamford Bridge.

Enrique left his job at Barcelona in May of 2017 after having managed the club for three years. The Spaniard has since been jobless and rumours from Spain claim that Enqirue wants to manage a club in England.

The Chelsea management have already held initial talks with the former Barcelona man and the Telegraph are now reporting that the deal might not move forward.

As per the Telegraph, the Blues are unwilling to meet Luis Enrique’s wage demands if he takes over at Stamford Bridge.

Enrique used to earn £16.5 million a year when he was managing the Catalans while Antonio Conte currently earns only £9.5 million a year at Stamford Bridge.

The report suggests that Enrique is not willing to take a pay cut in order to join Chelsea while the Blues are reluctant to offer such high wages to a manager who is yet to prove himself in the English Premier League.

Chelsea will try and negotiate with Luis Enrique in the coming few months but if the Spaniard refuses to budge then Roman Abramovich might move to the other options on his wish list.
