Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that his club with be out in the market to buy a central midfielder during the summer transfer window as Michael Carrick is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season.

And it seems that the United management have already set the ball rolling to bring in a suitable replacement for the long-serving midfielder.

According to a report from Rai Sport, the Manchester United hierarchy held a meeting with the representatives of Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

Jorginho played for Italy at the Etihad Stadium in their 2-0 defeat against Argentina on Friday and it was here that the midfielder’s representative Joao Santos met with the United chiefs.

The 26-year-old has been a standout performer for Napoli this season and has already managed to play 32 games for the Serie A side.

The report also claims that Santos had meetings with the Manchester City chiefs too.

This bit of news would most definitely come as a huge blow for Liverpool who were confident of landing Jorginho.

Jurgen Klopp is set to lose Emre Can during the summer and the German manager is desperate to bring in an apt replacement. Last week a few reports had claimed that the Merseyside outfit had already agreed on a deal in principle to sign Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. But that bit of news seems to have quickly fizzled out.

Arsenal too have been linked with Jorginho during the January transfer window and with Arsene Wenger claiming that Jack Wilshere’s future is far from being secure, the Gunners are also expected to make a bid for the Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

The meetings with the Manchester clubs are just initial conversations and as of now nothing concrete has come out of it. But with both City and United seemingly interested in Jorginho it sure isn’t good news for Liverpool and Arsenal.
