West Ham United are going through a major rebuilding phase under their new boss Manuel Pellegrini as a result of which the Hammers are being linked to a series of players during the summer transfer window.

The latest player to be linked with the Premier League outfit is Italian defender Gian Marco Ferrari.

Ferrari started his youth career at Parma and after moving through a series of clubs the centre-back finally joined Serie A side Sassuolo in 2016.

But like most of his previous endeavours, the 26-year-old failed to make any sort of impact with the club and was loaned out to two different clubs during the past two seasons.

His loan spell with Sampdoria during the 2017-18 season was a pretty big success and the defender went on to make 31 appearances in all competitions for the Italian outfit – making him the centre of attraction for a series of European clubs.

According to Italian publication, Calciomercato, Gian Marco Ferrari has a release clause of €13 million and West Ham United are keen to span him up before the start of the new campaign.

The London outfit though are not the only club interested in the centre-back’s services are Everton are also planning to make a move for him during the coming few weeks.

During the early weeks of the transfer window, there were a series of reports which stated that Napoli were interested in signing Gian Marco Ferrari but the talks did not materialize because the Italian were not ready to pay out his release clause.

But the Hammers though have no inhibition in pay the €13 million transfer fee for the defender and are planning to get in touch with Sassuolo in the coming days.

Gian Marco Ferrari is known to have a calm head on his shoulders which has garnered him much praise during his time at Sampdoria.

West Ham can surely benefit from the fact that Ferrari is a master at playing long balls out from defence which can prove to be a huge asset for Manuel Pellegrini. But the fact that the 26-year-old is not very good at coming out of defence with the ball at his feet might raise a few eyebrows though.

All in all, Gian Marco Ferrari will be a superb buy for West Ham United but the will have to move quickly if they have any serious intentions of signing him simply because clubs like AS Monaco and Seville are also rumoured to be monitoring his situation.
