Luka Modric and co will take on France on Sunday evening at the Luzhniki Stadium.
England took first blood in the game thanks to a top draw free kick from Kieran Trippier but the Vatreni fought back and equalized through Ivan Perisic in the 68th minute – taking the game into extra-time.
After that Croatia were more or less in the driver’ seat and it was Mario Mandzukic who struck the final blow with a neat left-footer in the 109th minute.
The goal sent the entire team into a frenzy who rushed towards Mandukic to celebrate the goal and the forward in turn ran towards the crowd of Croatian supporters.
And in that chaos, Manduzkic and almost the whole of the Croatian team jumped onto a photographer and pinned him to the ground.
AFP photographer Yuri Cortez was knocked down to the ground by the Croatian players who were celebrating like crazy, but all credit to the man, he still kept shooting.
And the images that he shot during the chaos has gone viral on social media.
Cortez who is from Mexico later told AFP: “I was just changing my lens as the players ran towards me,
“They just kept coming towards me and they fell on me! It was a crazy moment, they were delighted. Then they suddenly realized that I was underneath them.
“Then they asked me if I was OK. Another one picked up my lens and another player (Domagoj Vida) gave me a kiss.”
It looks like the photographer will not be forgetting this moment during the World Cup any time soon.
