Rangers FC signed Nikola Katic from Slaven Belupo during the summer transfer window and the centre-back has revealed his main reason for moving to Ibrox.
Katic has revealed that he had many offers from a number of European clubs but he chose Rangers over all of them only because of Steven Gerrard.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Nikola Katic said: “I didn’t speak with Spartak – just my agent. I didn’t speak with anyone other than the people at Rangers when I arrived in Glasgow,
“Rangers are bigger than Spartak because of all the history and in my opinion, Scottish football is better than in Russia and money wasn’t important – I just want to play.
“The size of the club and Gerrard as a coach were the main factors.
“I could have gone to CSKA last season but they wanted to put me on loan at first. They wanted me to go to Anzhi Makhachkala but I wanted to play for another season in Croatia before moving.
“The Gerrard factor was very important because he was a really great player and knows everything about football.
“Everyone said to me ‘It’s Gerrard, you need to go because you will learn and make good steps’. When I saw Gerrard was calling me I thought ‘wow’.”
Rangers are currently having their pre-season camp in Spain but once they play their first competitive match, Nikola Katic along with fellow new signing Connor Goldson is expected to be at the heart of the Rangers back-line.
