Ander Herrera joined Manchester United in 2014 from Athletic Bilbao and during his time at Old Trafford, the midfielder turned into a crowd favourite.
Both the club as well as the player have always spoken highly about it each other hence it came as a big surprise when Ander Herrera chose to leave Man United as a free agent this summer.
With his contract talks in limbo during 2018, it was a no brainer that Ander Herrera would sign a new deal with the club and commit his future to Solskjaer’s plans.
But instead, he chose to leave Old Trafford and join Ligue 1 giants PSG. And now speaking about his exit, the Spaniard has revealed the reason which led him to move out of the club which he has always endeared.
“I don’t like looking at the past but there were differences regarding the project and my importance within it,” he told Marca(as reported by Goal).
“I was very happy, I have a lot to thank the club for, the fans and also Solskjaer.
“He did a lot for me to stay, but things didn’t happen. They arrived late and, by then, I’d already made the decision to play in Paris.
“It has been fantastic. In five years I have played 189 games and I have been important for all the coaches,
“It is true that the MVP (Sir Matt Busby Award) makes one feel special and very happy, I keep every moment that I have lived.
“Why PSG? Because to leave United, the biggest team in England, you need something like PSG, which is the biggest in France. I could not play in another English club”
Man United have a pretty strong Spanish contingent at the club which was one of the biggest reasons which why everyone was sure that Ander Herrera would stay put at Man United.
But clearly, the club’s management took the midfielder’s contract situation too lightly as a result of which they have now lost a really fine player.
