Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been on the sidelines this season due to various injuries but he was expected to make a comeback pretty soon.
The defender underwent knee surgery over the summer which meant he could be fit in time to start the 2019-20 season and had to sit out for the first few weeks.
Then while he did make a return, he soon enough injured his groin and since then has been out of action.
While he was supposed to make a comeback sometime this week, but now it looks like he will be out for another month.
As per reports, Antonio Rudiger underwent surgery on Tuesday meaning he will not be returning back to the first XI anytime soon.
The defender was expected to be on the bench this weekend when Chelsea take on Crystal Palace at home in the Premier League. So naturally, his absence will surely throw a spanner to Lampard’s plans.
Right now Kurt Zouma and Tomori have been doing a fine job in central defence for the Blues but with the busy festive period coming around, Antonio Rudiger was very much needed and his absence will mean the Blues will have to tread very carefully.
But all is not bad news for the manager since reports claim that Mason Mount could be fit in time to face Palace on Saturday.
Mount picked up a knock against Ajax in the Champions League earlier this week and immediately he was a doubt for the Premier League match this weekend.
Now though, the midfielder has taken part in training on Friday which is obviously a good sign and there are reports that he will go through a late fitness test in order to determine his availability.
