Steven Gerrard has gone back to his former club Liverpool in search of players once again and this time he managed to bring Sheyi Ojo on loan.
The Premiership outfit released an official announcement on the 18th of June which read: “RANGERS Football Club are today delighted to confirm the signing of Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool on a season-long loan deal subject to international clearance.
“Ojo, 21, has made 13 top team appearances for the European Champions, while he has also enjoyed loan spells in the Championship with Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, and last season in French Ligue 1 with Stade de Reims.”
The 22-year-old arrived at Ibrox on a season-long loan deal from Anfield and the winger has already managed to score a goal during his first appearance for Rangers.
Sheyi Ojo played his first game during Rangers’ 4-0 win vs St Joseph’s in the Europa League qualifiers and according to the experts he put in a pretty fine shift.
While Steven Gerrard was also pleased with his performance during the match, but the Gers boss also sent out some warning signs for the winger.
“Listen, Sheyi has got all the attributes and if this doesn’t work it will be because of Sheyi,” Gerrard said.
“He has got everything in the locker – he is quick, he is strong, he is powerful, he takes on information.
“From a manager’s point of view, you know he is going to take on the tactical information, you see him chasing back and making fouls and getting yellow cards.
“He knows that he needs to make this work.
“He is delighted to be here, he has settled in well and the fans are having him. Now he has got to build on that.
“Towards the end, I could see him coming down slightly,
“I want him to be ruthless from start to finish and he will get the numbers that he wants and that will satisfy everyone.”
Sheyi Ojo could very well play a major part for Rangers during the coming 2019-20 season but Steven Gerrard will be hoping that the 22-year-old does not lose focus.
Last season too the manager brought in a number of fine talents like Sheyi Ojo but unfortunately, most of them failed to live up to the expectations.
