Chelsea are currently fourth on the Premier League table with 29 points and their dream of keeping their Champions League status is very much alive.

The Blues have so far won nine out of their first 16 league games but during the last couple of games, their form has dipped somewhat which has given an opportunity to the likes of Man United and Wolves to catch up with them.

Going into Matchweek 17, Man United are only five points behind Lampard’s men meaning Chelsea need to slip up only twice before they move out of the top-four.

And according to Paul Merson, there’s a very big chance that the likes of Man United and Spurs could catch up with Chelsea and topple them off the final Champions League spot.

Merson wrote in his Sky Sports column: “Can Manchester United catch Chelsea in fourth? 100 per cent! There’s a long way to go.

“Chelsea are a young side and are going to have their ups and downs.

“Spurs aren’t going to be far away either now Jose Mourinho has been appointed.

“You’ve got Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, four big football clubs, vying for what looks to be one spot in the top four.”

Chelsea take on AFC Bournemouth this week which is expected to be a pretty straight forward game but they have matches against Spurs and Arsenal before this year comes to an end. And there’s every possibility that Lampard’s men could drop points during these games.

Man United, on the other hand, have very much winnable fixtures this month meaning if Chelsea even slip-up once then the OT outfit will be breathing down their necks.
