Virgil Van Dijk scored for Liverpool on the opening day of the season and next up he will lead his side in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
The Dutch international was easily the best centre-back last season in the whole of Europe and not many defenders could match up to his cable which means the Chelsea attackers will have their work cut out in Istanbul.
But according to Pedro, there might be one defender who is at the same level as Virgil Van Dijk.
“They are very good central defenders, probably at this time at the top,” he said.
“Sergio Ramos is very good. I know him very well: great defender, great with the ball.
“Van Dijk is also the same: so strong, very good in the air, scores goals. Two big players.
“He’s in a good moment. Last season with Liverpool, he had a great season winning the Champions League and the best player in the premier league. He’s in a good moment and he’s a good defender.”
Van Dijk has been rated as one of the best buys that Liverpool have ever made but some pundits are sceptic before jumping to conclusions since the Premier League has seen a series of one season wonders.
But Chelsea still have a lot of work given that they are now limited in their attacking options.
Against Manchester United, it was Tammy Abraham who started upfront but vs Liverpool, it seems like Lampard will likely go with Olivier Giroud as the centre-forward.
And to be very honest we do not see the Frenchman causing much trouble to Virgil Van Dijk during this encounter.
But it could be the day for Christian Pulisic to shine who is about to get his first start for Chelsea and the American international has the pace as well as the skill to get past Van Dijk.
