David De Gea is out of contract at the end of this season but Man United have the option to for a further year.
For months now, it seemed as if De Gea would be putting pen to paper on a new deal but we are almost close to the end of the season and still, the deadlock has not been broken.
Pundits are still confident that David De Gea will commit his future to Man United but now with Real Madrid seemingly interested in signing the Spaniard, the scenario could easily take a bad turn.
Multiple reports claim that Zidane is not confident about Thibaut Courtois and wants David De Gea to become his number one at the Bernabeu next season.
This means the Los Blancos are likely to make a move for the shot-stopper during the summer and some rumours claim that De Gea is delaying the contract signing due to this particular reason.
But now according to the Sun, David De Gea has told his Man United teammates that he is more likely to stay at the club beyond the summer instead of leaving for Spain.
The report also claims that United coach Emilio Alvarez will play a major role in the player’s decision since the pair share a very good professional relationship.
Alvarez is the only backroom staff who has remained at the club after Jose Mourinho’s sacking and David De Gea has been really pleased that Man United have kept him.
It is still early to predict whether David De Gea will try and force a move out of Old Trafford during the summer but we are not ready to put our money against a move since the shot-stopper was on the verge of joining Madrid a couple of seasons ago.
Having said that though, if Man United do understand that De Gea is likely to leave the club at the end of the season, it will be interesting to see if they want Keylor Navas or Thibaut Courtois as part of the deal.
