Arsenal brought in David Luiz from Chelsea this summer transfer window and the Gunners are already looking like a solid defensive unit.
One of the main priorities for the manager was to strengthen the backline before the new and for the longest time, it looked like Emery would not be able to bring in any new defenders.
But on deadline day, the club managed to secure the signings of both David Luiz and Kieran Tierney.
Right now the partnership of David Luiz and Sokratis seems to be the first choice pairing for Arsenal in central defence and speaking about his partner, the Greek international compared him with German international Mats Hummels.
“I have known him for a lot of years. He also speaks some Greek and is a very good guy. I am happy also that we took a player like him with experience,” Sokratis told the club’s official website.
“When I was in Dortmund I played with Hummels, who has the same style as David. It was also a very good partnership and it is very good [now with David Luiz].
“It was his first game, it is important that we won and we can go from here.
“When [David] came we spoke a lot that we will have moments when we struggle, but we have to struggle altogether.
“Of course, he is a player that has experience because he played for big teams. We need character and players like him.
“Yes, it is good [to build a partnership]. But we have also Rob Holding, [Calum] Chambers who are good players and Dinos [Mavropanos], who is coming back now.
“We have to be ready for every game. It is a lot of games and we need all the players. The important thing is to win as a team.
“In games, somebody has to stay outside and somebody has to play, but the important thing is the team.”
When Rob Holding returns to full fitness then surely he will try and make a claim to the central defensive spot but surely David Luiz has been guaranteed a spot in the first XI before he chose to join the Gunners.
This means that Sokratis will have to be on his toes or else he could very well be warming the benches during the rest of the season.
