Chelsea started the 2019-20 Premier League season with a 4-0 loss to Manchester United and since they have been struggling to get their act going.

The Blues have so far picked up just 8 points from their first 6 matches in the league and on top of that, they have also lost the UEFA Super Cup final to Liverpool last month. So naturally, this rocky start to their new campaign has created a fair bit of anxiety amongst the Blues fans.

Chelsea are currently being managed by Frank Lampard who has taken the tough job of keeping the side in the Champions League during a time when they won’t be able to sign any new players.

The manager though looks pretty assured despite the poor show in some of their matches and has maintained his faith in the young brigade. Unfortunately though this very young contingent failed to stop Liverpool from beating Chelsea in their own backyard on Sunday.

The Blues lost the match 2-1 and clearly the lack of experience and leadership on the pitch was the main letdown for Lampard’s men.

And now with just 8 points to show for their efforts, many pundits have been claiming that Frank Lampard will not be able to survive the whole season if his players cannot up their game soon. Next week, Chelsea have yet another home game vs Brighton and this match might very well set the tone as to where the team is likely to head in the coming few months.

The match should be an intense affair since Chelsea would be eager to pick up all the three points and even most of the betting sites point towards an easy win for the home side. The importance of this match for Chelsea is very high and consists of many factors. The pundits and betting sites will have to think carefully what odds each team deserves.

But on paper though, Brighton are just two points away from Chelsea in the Premier League table and have managed to pick up points in their past two matches vs Burnley and Newcastle United. So if Graham Potter’s side can manage to hold the Blues to a draw then it will certainly be a job well done for them.

Theoretically, there is no real need to worry for Frank Lampard but if things go south next weekend, them the former Blues midfielder will surely have to face the heat.

Obviously, Lampard has the excuse of the transfer embargo to protect himself but if he fails to keep Chelsea in the Champions League next season then it will be really hard for him to survive at Stamford Bridge for one more season.

Also after the Chelsea vs Brighton game, the Blues are back in the Champions League where they will face Lille away from home and having lost the first group match vs Valencia, the Premier League outfit will have get some wind under their belt.

But as far as Brighton are concerned, they will be going into this match as the underdogs and anything other than a loss should be a great success for them.
