Matthijs de Ligt was a transfer target for Manchester United last year and it seems like they are going back for him – as per reports.

After a superb season with Ajax, a number of big European clubs wanted to sign the youngster and Man United were amongst them but eventually the 20-year-old ended up joining Serie A side Juventus.

The transfer made Matthijs de Ligt the most expensive teenage defender in history but after just one season, there are chances that he might be moving out of Italy.

As per reports, Man United are planning to make a move for the centre-back in the summer and will use Paul Pogba as a counterweight.

Juventus have been wanting to bring back Paul Pogba for some time now and Man United might have come to the conclusion that they will not be able to hold onto him for much longer.

But instead of taking just a big transfer fee for him, the Old Trafford outfit are looking to use the midfielder is a swap deal for Matthijs de Ligt.

Do Man United need Matthijs de Ligt?

Man United brought in Harry Maguire in the summer and the English defender has added a lot of stability at the back.

And to be honest, Victor Lindelof has done more than a decent job as the other centre-back and now that Eric Bailly has also returned back to full fitness, Man United are suddenly looking a move stronger unit at the back.

But having said all of this, if United can truly manage to bring in Matthijs de Ligt at the end of the season then they would and should try their level best to rope him in.

While Juventus will be eager to get their hands on Paul Pogba and they might think a bit about swapping their young defender with Pogba but we don’t think the Turin based outfit will want to part ways with the Dutch international after just a single season.
