Manchester United are looking at 19-year-old Thiago Almada, in case they fail to land a deal for Jadon Sancho at the end of the season, as per a report in MEN.
The exclusive report claims: “Manchester United have identified teenage Argentine winger Thiago Almada as a possible transfer alternative to Jadon Sancho.
“MEN Sport understands United’s recruitment team are monitoring a raft of potential targets in case their interest in Borussia Dortmund star Sancho bears no fruit.
“Sources in Argentina told MEN Sport of United’s admiration for the player, though the teenager would appear to be a back-up target as things stand. Manchester City came close to signing Almada last summer but the deal didn’t materialise as he signed a new contract with Velez.”
Can Almada replace Jadon Sancho?
Thiago Almada currently plays for Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield and over the course of the year, the teenager has caught the attention of a number of big European clubs.
During the 2019-20 season, the winger cum midfielder has played in 22 Superliga matches, scoring four goals along with providing one assist. And as per TransferMarkt, the youngster is currently valued at £16.20 million.
Man United have managed to extend Odion Ighalo’s loan spell meaning they are now planning to move onto securing a deal for Jadon Sancho but we have a strong feeling the OT outfit will not have to shift their focus to Thiago Almada since Sancho’s heading to Man United anyways.
MUFC have been chasing the Dortmund sensation for months now and most of the big publications in England feel it’s only a matter of time before the transfer is agreed.
But even if the Premier League outfit did fail to land Jadon Sancho, they are more likely to make a move for someone like Federico Chiesa instead of Almada – a player who is relatively unknown in the European circuit.
The Argentinian youngster has never played outside of his home country to it will be a major gamble to bring someone like him to the Premier League and expect big things from him instantaneously.
