Christian Pulisic has been Chelsea’s best player since the 2019-20 season resumed a few weeks ago and according to Jamie Redknapp, the American is filling the void left by Eden Hazard.
He wrote in his Daily Mail column: “There was a reason Etienne Capoue sprinted 20 yards to confront Christian Pulisic at Stamford Bridge. He was petrified of what Pulisic would do with the ball in the box, and he wound up giving away a clumsy penalty.
“That’s the threat the American is carrying right now. This was a signing that Frank Lampard inherited when he became Chelsea boss in the summer, with the club having lost Eden Hazard.
“Now Pulisic is looking like he could be Lampard’s most important player. He is continuing to have an impact and seems to have seized the lockdown opportunity to bulk up.
“Confidence is everything in football. This is Pulisic’s first season in the Premier League, but now he knows he has the ability to compete with the big boys, you can see the belief he is playing with.”
Christian Pulisic has taken a really long time to settle down at Stamford Bridge but over the past couple of weeks, the American international is easily the first name on Lampard’s teamsheet.
This season he has scored seven goals and provided two assists which might not be a lot but he’s been having a real positive impact during games. And this is truly a great sign for the Chelsea manager and his long-term plans.
The 21-year-old is clearly settling down in England and if he can continue his rapid progress then Chelsea would have found the perfect replacement to Eden Hazard.
The Blues received £90 million from Real Madrid for the sale of Eden Hazard and the Belgian has played in only 14 La Liga matches this season, scoring just a single goal.
