A lot of eyebrows were raised when Man United chose to sign Odion Ighalo as their backup striker during the January transfer window. But since his arrival, the player has hardly put a step wrong in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the current season but already there are talks about giving the Nigerian a permanent deal at the Old Trafford.

And now speaking about his future, Ighalo has admitted that not only does he wish to finish the 2019-20 season on a positive note but has also hinted at the possibility of remaining at the club beyond the summer.

Ighalo said, as reported by Express: “I would like to finish the season if it’s possible. I was in good form, good shape, scoring goals and now we’ve stopped for over a month.

“I’ve given it my best and hopefully we’ll come back to play. The team had a good momentum before the pandemic started. At the moment I’m on loan and this will cut short my time at the club.

“The club, myself, every footballer is going through a lot because we can’t do what we love and what we know how to do best.

“We’re just thinking about that for now and to finish the season before we start thinking about the contract.”

Will Man United hand Ighalo a permanent deal?

Odion Ighalo has surely impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his short stint in the PL but there’s a lot of things to consider before the manager can choose to keep him permanently at the club.

The forward had once before shone for Watford but the very next season his performance graph dipped badly. And the Man United think tank will surely have this in mind before they decide to offer him a permanent deal.

Also, Man United are chasing the likes of Harry Kane and Aubameyang and if they can manage to sign either one of these two forwards in the summer, there’s no chance Ole will look to hold onto Ighalo, even if he does decide to take a pay-cut.
