The Telegraph are reporting that Chelsea have been joined by Premier League rivals Manchester City in the signing of left-back Ben Chilwell.

The report claims: “Manchester City are prepared to join the race for Ben Chilwell when the transfer window opens at the end of the season.

“The Leicester left-back, 23, is a target for Chelsea but has also been considered at the Etihad Stadium should they need to recruit in that position.

“Pep Guardiola has played Benjamin Mendy the most times at left-back this season and also has Oleksandr Zinchenko, although the Ukraine international could be moved into midfield.

“Chilwell will come into Guardiola’s thinking when he needs a left-back. However, Leicester’s valuation may prove an obstacle: they rate their full-back as highly as they did Harry Maguire, who went for a world-record £85million for a defender when he joined Manchester United.”

While Chelsea will fight tooth and nail to fend off Manchester City and sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester City but somehow if they fail in this endeavour then Frank Lampard has two other alternatives lined up.

Alex Telles – FC Porto:

Telles has been an impressive player for FC Porto this season, scoring eight and assisting five in 23 Liga NOS matches.

The left-back has one year left on his current deal with Porto meaning it should not be a major problem signing him. But the Blues aren’t the only club interested in him as some rumours claim Ligue 1 side PSG have also been keeping tabs on him.

As per TransferMarkt, he is currently valued at £28.8 million.

Nicolas Tagliafico – Ajax:

Nicolas Tagliafico joined Ajax in 2018 from Argentinian side Independiente and during the 2019-20 season, the player has been involved in seven games across 24 Eredivisie games.

As per TransferMarkt, the full-back is valued at £25 million and has two years left on his current contract with the Amsterdam club. Unlike Porto, Ajax will let Tagliafico leave if they get the current bid on the table.
