SPFL have been trying to end the 2019-20 season Premiership season immediately but if that happens both Celtic FC and Rangers FC might miss out on European football next season.

Almost all the clubs have voted on a resolution to end the season right now except for one single club. And as things stand, the entire fate of the season rests on the vote of this club.

Ten Premiership clubs have voted in favour of the ending the season immediately while one club voted against it and one did not vote.

And some fans feel that Rangers might the one of the clubs who have gone against the tide since they had made it pretty clear that they do not support this idea.

The Gers had also complained to the SFA that a number of clubs were being bullied into casting votes in favour of the resolution.

“Over the last 36 hours, we have received numerous reports from fellow Scottish clubs relating to attempts to coerce and bully them into voting for the SPFL’s own resolution,” Rangers said via the BBC.

“We are proud that many fellow clubs will stand strong and not be swayed.

“Our resolution was simply intended to urgently address the financial hardship faced by clubs whilst allowing more time to discuss and evaluate all options for completing this season, in line with Uefa advice.”

Celtic FC will obviously benefit if the season ends now since they will bag yet another Premiership title. But this happiness might be short-lived since they might be forced out of Europe in the next campaign.

Recently the Belgian Pro League walked in a similar path where they chose to end the season as per their current standings thereby naming Club Brugge as the Belgian top-flight champions.

But shortly after this decision, UEFA released a statement in which they made it clear that if leagues chose to make such a call, then teams from those countries might be barred from playing in Europe next season.

“It is of paramount importance that even a disruptive event like this epidemic does not prevent our competitions from being decided on the field, in accordance with their rules and that all sporting titles are awarded on the basis of results,” the joint letter said, as reported.

“We are confident that football can restart in the months to come – with conditions that will be dictated by public authorities – and believe that any decision of abandoning domestic competitions is, at this stage, premature and not justified.

“UEFA reserves the right to assess the entitlement of clubs to be admitted to the 2020/21 UEFA club competitions.

“The Belgian Pro League said it had had “constructive” discussions with UEFA on Friday morning in which it “contested any approach which would force a league to continue in the current health crisis”.”

So as things stand if the SPFL ends the 2019-20 season as is, both Celtic FC and Rangers FC might be excluded from Europe.
