Recently, the South American keeper had made it clear that he will try and move out if he is not guranteed game time during the 2020/21 season.
Emiliano Martinez had said shortly after the FA Cup win: “I showed that I can play, I need to play more games next season,
“I want to establish myself at Arsenal and become first choice. If I don’t play, I’m going to move, I’m going to go where I play more.”
And now the Independent are claiming that he has rejected a new offer from Arsenal in order to join Aston Villa in the coming few days.
The report claims: “Arsenal have reluctantly decided to sell Emiliano Martinez and will now continue talks with Aston Villa, who are expected to make an improvement on their £15m offer for the goalkeeper.
“Despite a series of discussions between Martinez and head coach Mikel Arteta, the Argentine has been given no clear assurances over being the club’s long-term No 1, with Bernd Leno in line to start Arsenal’s season-opening fixture against Fulham on Saturday.
“The Independent understands that Martinez has already agreed personal terms with Villa on a four-year contract, worth in the region of £60,000 per week.
“Dean Smith’s side are Martinez’s first choice as he wants to remain in the Premier League, despite firm interest from Villarreal in Spain.”
Initially, it was thought that Bernd Leno will be out of action for a really long time after his knee injury during the final phase of the previous Premier League season. But the German has made a pretty quick recovery.
Leno is already back in action and is expected to start in goal against Fulham at Craven Cottage this weekend during the 2020/21 season opener.
So clearly in this season, Emiliano Martinez will once again be pushed to the bench if he decides to hang around at the Emirates.
