Matt Targett moved to Villa from Southampton last summer and this season he has done pretty well under the guidance of Dean Smith playing in 20 Premier League games for the club so far.
And it seems like the Blues are planning to make a move for the 24-year-old as a possible replacement for Emerson.
Earlier this week, there had been reports of Emerson looking to head out in the summer with clubs like Juventus and Napoli interested in him. And if this happens then Frank Lampard will have to bring in a new left-back, hence the interest in Matt Targett.
Chelsea have also been heavily linked with Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell but it’s pretty clear that the Foxes will not let the England international leave for anything less than 50 million pounds.
And this amount is proving to be a cause of massive hindrance for Chelsea Football Club.

Matt Targett, on the other hand, is valued at only around 10 million pounds as per TransferMarkt making him the ideal backup plan for Frank Lampard.
The Blues already have players like Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta who play at left-back meaning Targett will be a luxury to have as a backup in case they cannot sign Ben Chilwell.
Chilwell is without a doubt one of the top full-backs in the Premier League right now and Leicester have every right to ask for such a massive fee for him.
But the problem with Chelsea right now is that Lampard needs to bring in several other players in the summer which is why he does not want to splash out so much money on one defender.
So as things stand, Matt Targett remains a perfect backup option but as far as we feel, Chelsea will only move for him once they are sure they can’t sign Ben Chilwell.
