Chelsea beat Brighton in their first match of the new Premier League season and next up they welcome Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been able to gather a fair bit of momentum with their win vs the Seagulls but after that game, there have been concerns about Timo Werner and Jorginho, both of whom seemed to pick up knocks on Monday night.

While Werner remained on the pitch for the whole match, Jorginho had to be replaced by Azpilicueta in the 85th minute. Thankfully, if Lampard’s statement is anything to go by then both of them should be fit and available for selection when Liverpool come to town.

‘I was really pleased with Timo,’ said the boss, after the match. ‘I know the qualities he is going to bring, we saw that with the speed to get the penalty.

‘He is going to be a real threat. He is a very mobile centre-forward who can do so many things for us. He is one who has had some games, he has a bit of fitness, and you could see that.

‘He took a knock when he won the penalty which we hope is a dead leg. I would like to think if it is that we have a bit of time to get him back [for the Liverpool game].

‘Jorginho is just tiredness. A lot of players are not fully fit at the moment and that is just the way it is. I thought they dealt with the rigors of the game very well in terms of how tough it is to come to Brighton when you are not quite there.’

Christian Pulisic might not be so lucky though since the American is still recovering from his thigh injury and there’s a 50-50 chance of him being named in the matchday squad next Sunday.

The manager added: ‘Christian was training with us last week but he had a bit of discomfort a couple of days ago when he was trying to be in contention for today.

‘It would have been a big ask for today and he has had to take a few steps back and we will have to see.’

Apart from these injury worries, new signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell are both ruled out of the Liverpool game due to respective injuries but Thiago Silva should be able to get his professional debut for Chelsea.
