Rangers FC could finally lose their star forward Alfredo Morelos during the upcoming transfer window but he might not be heading to the Premier League – as per reports.
Newcastle United have been tipped to bring in a new forward for the upcoming season after Joelinton has failed to impress this campaign and for the longest time, it was believed that they will make a move for Alfredo Morelos.
Now though it seems like the Magpies are set to lose out on the Colombian since Atletico Madrid are interested in signing the forward and are willing to enter into a swap deal for him in the summer.
As per reports, Simeone’s side wants to sign Alfredo Morelos in the summer and in return they are willing to offer Rodrigo Riquelme in exchange of the Colombian.
Rodrigo Riquelme is a product of the Atletico Madrid academy but the 19-year-old is yet to break into the first-team squad and this season he has played in only a single league match for 12 minutes.
Steven Gerrard has time and again made it clear that he will not part ways with Alfredo Morelos but we know for a fact that if a big club like Atletico Madrid come calling then the Gers will not be able to hold onto him.
And this is a huge blow for Newcastle United as well since even though Alfredo Morelos has hinted that he wants to make a move to the Premier League in the future but if he gets to play for a top European club then there’s no chance that he will be choosing the Magpies.
Another major problem for Newcastle United is the fact that Atletico Madrid not only are offering their youngster but they also have the deep pockets to offer Rangers what they are demanding – something NUFC cannot do.
It is still not sure if Atletico Madrid are serious about their interest in Alfredo Morelos or not but surely he can be a bargain buy for the La Liga side.
But at the same time, if Atletico come calling then Newcastle United will have to fold their hands and watch the Colombian striker move to Spain in the summer.
During the 2019-20 season, Morelos has played in 45 games for Rangers and has netted 29 goals along with 10 assists.
