Rangers FC could reignite their interest in Anderlecht’s Kemar Roofe if they fail to hold onto Alfredo Morelos beyond the summer, as per the Scottish Sun.
The 27-year-old joined the Belgian side last summer from Leeds United but has been able to play in just 13 league matches this campaign, primarily due to a series of injury problems. And as per the Sun, the Gers could try and reignite their interest in him.
The report claimed: “RANGERS are set to reignite their interest in Kemar Roofe if star striker Alfredo Morelos leaves Ibrox this summer.
“Steven Gerrard missed out on the English striker when he moved from Leeds United to Anderlecht 12 months ago for £7million.
“But the Rangers boss is gearing up to make a second attempt to land the 27-year-old should top scorer Morelos move on.”
Will Kemar Roofe agree to join Rangers FC?
This season Roofe has not shone for the Belgian side but last season he netted 14 goals in just 32 games for Leeds United. And according to Noel Whelan, the 27-year-old might try and force his way out of his current club primarily since Anderlecht have missed out on European football.
Whelan told Football Insider: “Look, this isn’t the first time he’s been tipped with Rangers, is it? So this resurfaces itself again.
“I think he’d be tempted, he’s sampled football abroad and I think he wants that European football, which he’s going to get.
“He’s a goalscorer, you know? He works hard and he’s someone that gets you goals to win football matches. Obviously Rangers haven’t forgotten about him since his move to Belgium.
“This would be something we need to watch but it wouldn’t surprise me if they do go in for a player like that. He’s very much like a Jermain Defoe type, very busy, very quick in front of goal, knows where the back of the net. I think that would be a very good move for both parties.”
