The Scotsman are reporting that it’s only a matter of time before Arsenal wrap up the signing of left-back Aaron Hickey from Bologna.

The ex-Hearts player moved to the Serie A last summer and in the previous season, he’s caught everyone’s attention with his fine performances. He’s scored five goals and provided one assist in the 36 league games that he’s played in Italy.

Aston Villa and Newcastle United have also been chasing the youngster but it looks like the Gunners have beaten their Premier League rivals to this signing.

Aaron Hickey has been nominated for the Golden Boy award and as per the report, Arsenal are about to bring him on board for a transfer fee of around £18 million.

Will Aaron Hickey be a good signing for Arsenal?

Aaron Hickey has been phenomenal for Bologna and he’s one for the future. He’s primarily a left-back but can also operate as a left wing-back plus he’s also played a few matches on the right-hand side of midfield.

Kieran Tierney’s time at Arsenal has been riddled with injuries while Nuno Tavares has been very mediocre and as per the latest rumours, Arteta is planning to get rid of Tavares this summer.

If Nuno Tavares leaves then 20-year-old Aaron Hickey will be the deputy to Tierney and this will help him gather a lot of experience.

Arsenal will be playing in the Europa League next season so Hickey will get to play in all those unwanted Thursday night matches plus the easier cup ties and at just £18 million, it’s definitely a great signing for Arsenal.

Some people have claimed that at Aston Villa or Newcastle United Aaron Hickey would have had the chance to play a lot more regularly but that actually might not be the case because Arsenal play a lot more games in a season than these two clubs.

Also, the Gunners are one of the biggest clubs in the world and they have a much better chance of finishing in the top four next season.
