Arsenal ready to make a formal offer for this 23 Y/O England international: Spending too much?

Arsenal are ready to make a formal move for Sheffield United keeper Aaron Ramsdale and according to The Express, the Gunners will not find it too hard to sign the 23-year-old.

The report claims: “Arsenal are expected to make a formal bid for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the coming weeks with their interest in the player now well documented.

“The Blades are looking for around £20million for their No 1, who re-joined the club from Bournemouth last summer for a fee of £18.5million.

“Sheffield United are not expected to play hardball should formal negotiations begin between the two clubs.”

Should Arsenal spend money on Aaron Ramsdale?

Bernd Leno has two more years left on his current deal at Arsenal so it’s quite natural for Mikel Arteta to think about bringing in a long-term replacement – should the German refuse to sign a new contract.

Sheffield United paid £18.5million for the 23-year-old and signed him on a four-year deal so they are not going to offer any sort of discount when Arsenal sit down for negotiations.

But having said that, we will have to wait and see if Aaron Ramsdale is ready to come back into the Premier League and warm the benches for one or maybe two full seasons.

The shot-stopper has played in 75 Premier League games in his career so far but if he joins Arsenal then he will only get to play in the cup competitions next campaign.

Also, £20 million is a lot of money for a backup keeper and we feel Barcelona’s Neto will be a move sensible choice – Arsenal have been linked with him as well.

Sheffield United are more than ready to cash in on Aaron Ramsdale but Arsenal need to think long and hard before they are ready to spend £20million on the England international – that too in such a crisis period.

UPDATE:

Arsenal are yet to make direct contact with the Blades but according to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, the Gunners have made their interest clear via intermediaries.
