Recently crowned I-League Champions secured the ticket to the semi-finals of the Federation Cup after defeating Churchill Brothers 2-1 at Cuttack.

The Group A match started off in a rather cautious manner as both teams were mindful not to give away an early goal. But the match took a turn for the better after Aizawl FC were awarded a penalty in the 21st minute of the match. The referee awarded the penalty after Aizawl’s Lalruatthra was brought down inside the box. It was Chullova was stepped up to take up the penalty and did a fine job. He slotted the ball into the back of the net to give Aizawl FC the lead.

After the goal, Aizawl slowly went into a defensive mode and started defending deep into their own half. But the strategy seemed to be working for the North-Eastern side as Churchill found it hard to get any penetration. But Churchill Brothers were awarded a penalty of their own in the 84th minute of the match. And it was Kromah who converted from the penalty spot to level the match at 1-1.
