Man United defender likely to miss the first few matches of the 21/22 season: Too big a miss?

Manchester United’s Alex Telles has picked up an ankle injury in pre-season and the club have confirmed that the left-back will be out for the whole of August.

The 28-year-old was part of United’s pre-season training camp but he picked up a knock during training which forced him to miss the 4-2 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Initially, it was thought the injury is not too serious and that Alex Telles will be back in no time. Now, Solskjaer has confirmed that the left-back will not be back until September.

Ole told United’s official website: “Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for.

“His ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think.”

Alex Telles a big miss for Man United?

Luke Shaw will obviously be the first-choice left-back for Manchester United when the 2021/22 Premier League season kicks off next month.

But this injury to Alex Telles means Manchester United lose out on bench strength for the first few matches.

United take on Leeds United, Southampton and Wolves in their first three matches of the new campaign and we don’t think their defensive unit will be too stretched during these games.

With Luke Shaw still on holiday, Brandon Williams will now play as the first-choice left-back for the remaining friendlies and the academy lad will also act as the backup for Shaw in the first three league encounters.

Now, the one thing Ole will have to be careful about is that Brandon Williams does not join Alex Telles in the treatment table as well.
