Arsenal suffer a major transfer blow as one of their main targets is about to sign a new deal: Should the Gunners go for him anyway?

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is one of Arsenal’s main targets but as per an exclusive report by TBR, the Swedish international is about to sign a new deal with the Magpies.

Newcastle has been in talks with Isak over a new deal and it seems like the two parties have finally reached an agreement and soon, the forward is going to become the highest-paid player in the squad.

The Magpies paid around €70 million for Alexander Isak back in 2022 on a six-year contract and as per Capology, he currently earns €140,000 per week. Bruno Guimaraes is the highest earner at the club right now with €186,000 per week so Isak’s new salary is either going to match that or be more.

Will Arsenal give up hope of signing Alexander Isak?

The fact that Isak is going to sign a new contract will be a setback for Arsenal but we don’t think they will back off. €180,000-190,000 per week is something that the Gunners can match very easily and with players like Gabriel Jesus and Nketiah set to leave, Arsenal will be able to free up a lot of space.

Last season, Alexander Isak scored 10 goals in 27 appearances for the Magpies but this campaign, he’s turned on the heat. In 27 Premier League matches, the forward has scored 20 times and his current xG is 18.9.

Also, these 20 league goals have come from just 39 shots on target which is an exceptional conversation rate.

While Arsenal are scouting other centre-forwards as well, Isak is one of their priority targets at the moment. It will be tough to convince Newcastle United of a sale but the Magpies need to balance their books in order to avoid an FFP breach. Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak are two of their best quality players and some experts believe Eddie Howe will have to lose at least one of them in the summer.

If Isak is the one that Newcastle are willing to sell then it will be a field day for Arsenal and the Gunners won’t mind shelling out €80-90 million on the 24-year-old. Together, Jesus and Nketiah currently earn around €420,000 per week and Alexander Isak is ready to join them, Arteta won’t mind spending 70-80% of this freed-up wage on the Swede.
