Arsenal take on Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend and it seems like Alexandre Lacazette has already secured a place in the starting line-up.

The Frenchman has been in and out of the side throughout this season but over the past couple of weeks, the forward has really proved his worth to Mikel Arteta, scoring three goals in four league games. These three goals have come against heavyweight sides such as Leicester, Spurs and West Ham United so it’s safe to say that the Arsenal boss will once again look up to Alexandre Lacazette to deliver the goods when Liverpool come to town.

“I think he’s been really good,” Arteta said in his press conference. “I think he’s been in really good form for months now. I think he’s sustaining that level.

“He’s scoring goals and he’s providing the team with something different as well. His work rate has been phenomenal and it’s what we want. We need those types of players hitting the best level and we want to have the chance to do that.

“Over the course of the season we have been missing goals, we’ve been missing that creativity in the final third and we need those players to step in and make that difference for the team.

“I am always happy when people talk about our players and speculate on that. It means they are doing well and getting attention from other clubs.”

Mikel Arteta seems very impressed with the Frenchman’s recent performance and the manager also went on to add that the club are likely to offer him a new deal at the end of this season.

The manager added: “The situation with Laca will get addressed in the summer. I will speak to him and just propose a future that we want and that’s it. Now I just want players focused and only focused on performing and getting the best out of them for the team.

“At the end of the day, everything is related to where we are, how much we win and where we are playing next season. There are no exceptions and we all need to be clear with that and the context that we have around our industry.”

Gabriel Martinelli has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal during the course of this season and this has really helped Alexandre Lacazette to get a lot more game time.

The 29-year-old was brilliant against West Ham United just before the international break and Arteta will be hoping that he can replicate that same level of performance this Saturday as well.
