Alexis Mac Allister suffered an injury while on international duty but the Liverpool midfielder will be fit and available for selection for matchweek four.
The midfielder picked an abductor knock during Argentina’s World Cup qualifying win against Chile but thankfully, the knock is not serious and he has been cleared to play against Nottingham Forest.
The manager told the press on Friday: “He was out in the last game but he trained with us yesterday. I’m expecting Macca to be with us tomorrow.”
Will Alexis Mac Allister make a positive impact?
Alexis Mac Allister joined Liverpool in 2023 but took some time to settle down at Anfield. However, the World Cup winner was massively influential during the final couple of months of last season.
Last season, he had an xA of 4.89 and despite being a central midfielder, he created 47 chances in the Premier League. Defensively, Alexis Mac Allister was not very solid however, this season he is looking a much more well-rounded midfielder. He is currently in the top five for distance covered in the Premier League this season, having run 33.6 km.
This is primarily because Arne Slot has slightly tweaked the team’s formation and currently, Gravenberch is playing alongside Mac Allister in a more central role.
After the first three games, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai have been receiving all the plaudits and this has actually helped Mac Allister slowly and steadily build up his confidence under the new manager.
Liverpool do not have much depth in their midfield department and Harvey Elliot is already out with a broken leg. In such a case if Alexis Mac Allister were ruled out as well then Arne Slot would have been in all sorts of trouble.
Right before the international break, Liverpool beat Manchester United so they are high in confidence but Nottingham Forest are a tricky opponent because they are still undefeated. Also, after the Forest game, Liverpool have to travel to Italy to face AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
