Sweden and England go head to head on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal of the 2018 World Cup.

Even though England look favourites to win the tie but the Russia edition is without a doubt one of the most unpredictable World Cup’s we have seen.

A lot of big teams have fallen prey to the so-called smaller teams and Gareth Southgate’s side could very well be the next in line.

So before the Sweden vs England we decided to take a look at some of the key stats:

Head to Head count:

Sweden vs England has taken place a total of 24 times which includes international friendlies and one unofficial match. The first encounter took place in 1923 in Stockholm which England won 4-2

England have the slightest edge over Sweden – winning 8 games while losing 7 of the encounters. 9 games have ended in a stalemate.

Biggest margin of win:

England have never managed to score more than three goals past Sweden when it comes to competitive matches and if you take into account all the 24 games then the biggest margin of win for England is 4-2 which last came in 1947.

Sweden, on the other hand, have also scored 4 goals past England during an international friendly which took place in 2012.

Last encounter:

The last Sweden vs England encounter was an international friendly which took place in November of 2012 which Sweden won 4-2.

All the four goals for Sweden were scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and he, in turn, became the first player to score four goals in a game against England.

But the last Sweden vs England competitive match took place in June of 2012 in the European Championship and England won that game with a scoreline of 3-2.

Ashley Young and Jordan Henderson are the only two players from that game in 2012 who have featured regularly for England in the 2018 World Cup. Henderson though was on the bench in 2012.
