Alphonse Areola to Arsenal

Premier League side Arsenal are being linked with PSG outcast Alphonse Areola as he returns to Paris after his loan spell with Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old keeper has come up through the ranks at PSG and he spent the 2019-20 season out on loan to Real Madrid where he managed to make only four league appearances.

And now that he has returned to Paris, reports in France are claiming that Arsenal are interested in signing him and super-agent Mino Raiola is trying to broker a deal between the parties.

The report claims: “Alphonse Areola, a 27-year-old goalkeeper trained at Paris Saint-Germain, must find a new club this summer. His loan to Real Madrid will not lead to a final transfer and he has no more room in Paris. The Parisian Titi is rather turned towards the Premier League.

“Indeed, we can say that his agent Mino Raiola seeks instead in the Premier League, while a return to PSG is absolutely unthinkable.

“Especially because the Parisian club does not count on him. And to find a nice continuation of his career, the agent works in particular on the side of Arsenal, a club which seeks to find Europe as quickly as possible.

“There is no question of a transfer already completed. But there is good hope that this way out will materialize for Areola. We must now wait for the negotiations to move forward and take shape.”

Do Arsenal need Alphonse Areola?

A couple of weeks ago, Bernd Leno picked up a ligament injury during a league match and initially the keeper was expected to be out for a really long time. So in such a scenario, making a move for someone like Alphonse Areola made total sense.

But Leno has suffered only a ligament sprain and as per the club’s latest update, the keeper will return to full training next week so clearly spending money on the PSG man is not required.

Also, in the absence of Bernd Leno, Martinez has done a really great job in front of goal so in theory, Mikel Arteta does not even need a backup keeper for the next season.

As per TransferMarkt, Alphonse Areola will cost around £12 million which is a really steep price to pay for a potential third-choice keeper.
