If a report by Marca is to be believed then Barcelona are interested in Amadou Onana and the midfielder is one of their primary transfer targets.
Amadou Onana joined Aston Villa this summer for a fee of around €60 million and during the first few games, the midfielder has really impressed under Unai Emery’s management. He’s started all four league games and he’s also scored two goals despite being a central midfielder.
However, Onana has been on Barcelona’s radar for the longest time and even though he joined a new team just a few months ago, Hansi Flick still wants him in his long-term plans.
Will Barcelona be able to sign Amadou Onana next summer?
Amadou Onana was with Everton for two seasons where he played 72 games for the club. Without a doubt, a move to Aston Villa is a step up for the Belgium international but if Barcelona are serious about signing him, the midfielder will definitely look to push out.
Villa are playing in the Champions League this season but if they cannot hold onto that status next season then an offer from Barcelona will be even more tempting for the 23-year-old.
However, Onana’s contract with Villa runs until 2029 so they are in no hurry to offload him. The only way Barcelona will be able to convince Aston Villa to sell Amadou Onana after just a single season is by offering an eye-popping fee but with the financial condition they are in right now, we don’t see the Catalans spending €80-90 million on a single player next summer.
Ilkay Gundogan has already been sold and Barcelona could also get rid of Frenkie de Jong at the end of this campaign. FDJ’s sale will free up a lot of the wage bill and if the club can bring in around €60-70 million from the Netherlands international’s sale maybe then they might think about going after Amadou Onana.
The odds are heavily stacked against the La Liga giants in this transfer race which is probably why they are also keeping tabs on Joshua Kimmich because he will be a free agent in June 2025.
