Arsenal have let Mat Ryan leave the club, meaning Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer and right now, the name of Ajax’s Andre Onana is being heavily linked with the Premier League side.

The 25-year-old joined Ajax from Barcelona in 2015 and over the past few seasons, he has been a constant performer for the first-team squad. During the 2020-21 campaign, Onana made 20 appearances for the club but currently, he is challenging a 12-month ban doping ban.

Ajax want around £35 million for the sale of their keeper but if the ban is upheld then Arsenal might have the chance to sign Andre Onana for just €2m (£1.7m).

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also made it clear that Arsenal hold a steady interest in Andre Onana and the Cameroonian’s price tag will depend on the 12-month ban.

Romano said on his Here We Go Podcast: “We have to see what happens with the suspension because this will be key to understanding first of all how much will be the price of the player.

“So, they need to wait on the suspension, he was discussing his ban [on Wednesday] in the court with Ajax.

“Arsenal are interested because if the situation will change they wanted to try and they are in touch with his agents and [he] was close to joining Arsenal in January.

“They were in talks with his agent in January, now the situation is still on the table because they are seriously considering to go for Onana. He is a serious target for Arsenal.”

Bernd Leno is the first choice keeper for Arsenal so the Gunners will ideally want to sign Andre Onana as a backup. And if they can get their hands on the 25-year-old for just €2m then it will be a great bit of business from the North London side.

Some rumours have claimed that Leno could look to move out of Arsenal this summer but we doubt if that is going to happen meaning if Onana comes in then he will be the backup to the No 1.

The £35 million demand from Ajax is totally absurd since Andre Onana only has one more year left on his current deal at the club so realistically, even if his ban is withdrawn then also, the Dutch side will be able to get only £10-12 million from his sale.
