Premier League side Arsenal remain in the hunt for a new goal-keeper and according to Sports Mole, the English side could make a move for Ajax’s Andre Onana.

The Gunners tried to sign him before as well but at that time Lyon were the favourites to land him. Now since that deal has crumbled, Arsenal could go back for the 25-year-old.

Sports Mole cites Dutch reports: “Arsenal reportedly remain keen to strike a deal for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.

“Arsenal were thought to have been at the head of the queue for Onana’s signature only for Lyon to overtake them in negotiations, leaving Mikel Arteta considering a move for Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale instead.

“However, Dutch outlet De Telegraaf claims that Onana pulled the plug on the Lyon deal as he holds out for a move to a ‘bigger club’, which could see Arsenal reignite their pursuit of the shot-stopper.”

Andre Onana the perfect signing for Arsenal?

Arsenal want to sign a back-up keeper for Bernd Leno and so far they have been heavily linked with Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale.

But the Blades keeper will not come for cheap since the English reports suggest that Sheffield have put a price tag of £30 million on his shoulders.

Signing a backup keeper for such a steep price makes absolutely no sense especially when someone like Andre Onana could be available for just £5 million.

The Cameroon international has entered the final year of his contract which is why Ajax are ready to let him leave for a cut-price deal, instead of seeing him walk out as a free agent.

Back in April, there were talks of Ajax trying to make him sign a new deal this summer but so far, there have been no major updates.

Andre Onana is a perfectly fine talent and if he is really available in the £5 million price range then Arsenal should scrap the idea of signing Aaron Ramsdale and move for the Ajax No 1.
