Newcastle United signed Andy Carroll during the summer transfer window as a free agent after the forward was released by West Ham United at the end of last season.

Carroll is yet to play for the Magpies this season but multiple reports claimed the 30-year-old might be fit to take on his former club this weekend.

The reports based their updates on news that Andy Carroll had returned back to training which he has but unfortunately, they did not reveal the full picture.

Yes, the forward has started training but Steve Bruce has now clarified that the forward has been doing only light non-contact training and he will not be ready for the Liverpool clash.

Steve Bruce said(as quoted): “Andy we’ll have to still be patient. However, for the first time today, he joined in with the group to a degree,

“He only took part in half of the session, non-contact, but it’s good to see him out kicking a ball again.

“I always knew that it would be towards the end of this month and halfway through the next month really where we are with Andy.”

This news will be really dampening for the Magpies fans since the ariel presence of Andy Carroll could have been a big asset for Steve Bruce during the Liverpool clash.

Playing at Anfield, Bruce is sure to use an ultra-defensive approach and with Carroll in the team, Newcastle could have used the long-ball tactics to great perfection.

But now that Andy Carroll is not in the travelling squad, the Magpies boss will have to pitch all his hopes on Joelinton who right now is the only true centre-forward in the team.

Joelinton has so far featured in all the Premier League games for NUFC and has managed to score only a single goal and we don’t believe he will be able to add to that tally vs Liverpool on Saturday.
