Rangers FC started the season brilliantly under their new boss Steven Gerrard.

But with each passing month, Celtic are proving that they still remain the most worthy contenders to pick up the Premiership trophy.

The Gers have reached the top of the table a couple of times during the course of this season but each time some other team has overtaken them.

And right now, Rangers sit second on the league table – six points behind leaders Celtic FC.

Rangers have been dropping points at crucial stages of the season and they have failed to pick up wins against the likes of Hibernian and Kilmarnock – games which should have been easy three points.

And speaking earlier this week, Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has stated that their season will be a complete failure if they fail to pick up a trophy by the end of the campaign.

He said: “Our squad’s had a lot of praise this year due to the progress that’s been seen domestically and in Europe.

“We’ve managed to make it a real title race this year.

“But I still think it would be a disappointment and a failure if we don’t win a trophy. It’s as simple as that.

“This is a club that has a tradition based on winning things and if we were to walk away empty-handed again at the end of the season then we will be judged on that.”

Next up Rangers will face St Mirren at home in the Premiership this weekend and the Gers need to win this game if they wish to keep their title challenge alive for the remainder of the campaign.
