Just a couple of days ago, Tony Cascarino had claimed that the centre-back pairing of Tomori and Zouma was one of the major week points for Chelsea and they desperately needed Antonio Rudiger back.

The defender has played only a single Premier League match this season and is currently recovering from a groin injury which he picked up during the middle of September.

Cascarino told TalkSPORT: “I think there’s a lot of learning to be done with Tomori and Zouma.

“They’re a partnership that Frank trusts, but there are mistakes there too regularly.

“They’re both young men in the early part of their career, but big clubs don’t allow you to go through this period of indifference.

“They miss Rudiger enormously because he is their best natural defender.”

But now it looks like the Gods have finally smiled upon the Chelsea fans since Antonio Rudiger was back in training on Tuesday just before they take on Valencia in the Champions League.

The German international was pictured training with the rest of the first-team squad and there are whispers that he might be fit enough to start vs Valencia on Wednesday.

The official Chelsea website reported: “Rudiger underwent surgery near the start of this month on a pelvic problem. His one game this season was in mid-September at Wolves when he was forced off at half-time.

“Callum Hudson-Odoi missed the trip to Manchester City at the weekend having returned from England international duty with a hamstring concern and unlike Rudiger, he was not one of the players who entered the training pitch for the start of today’s squad session which, due to Champions League regulations, was open to the media.”

While it is still unclear as to how fit he is but since he took part in the full training session it wouldn’t be a long shot to claim that the centre-back will start alongside Kurt Zouma on Wednesday.

But there’s also the possibility of Zouma and Tomori starting the match and Antonio Rudiger coming on maybe during the final quarter of the game.
