Here’s how Chelsea plan to stop this 28 Y/O defender from joining Tottenham Hotspur

Antonio Rudiger Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur have had an interest in signing defender Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea but it seems like the Blues are not ready to part ways with the German international, as per Football Insider.

The report claims: “Tottenham are set to pull the plug on their pursuit of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, Football Insider understands.

“The north Londoners have kept tabs on the Germany international’s situation with his contract expiring next year.

“But a Chelsea source told Football Insider that the club wants to keep Rudiger, 28, and will offer him a “huge” new contract to stay. Talks are set to open in the coming weeks and all parties are hopeful a long-term extension can be agreed.”

Antonio Rudiger was nowhere close to a first-team start for Chelsea during the first half of the season and he was even on the verge of moving out of the club during the January transfer window.

But under Thomas Tuchel, the German has totally turned his career around and right now, he is one of the most important players on the pitch for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

The centre-back has played in 19 Premier League games this season, most of them during the second half of the campaign and it’s very logical that Tuchel does not want to part with the defender.

Spurs are looking to strengthen their defensive line for the upcoming season and with just one year left on his deal, Antonio Rudiger would have been the perfect signing for the Lilywhites.

But after his recent display of talent, Chelsea are not going to waste any time in offering a new deal to the defender and if wages and the other finer details are not a problem then Antonio Rudiger will be putting pen to paper right after the European Championships.

Tottenham might have lost out on a real bargain deal but Daniel Levy still needs to bring in a new centre-back since the pairing of Dier and Alderweireld is not going to help Spurs challenge for the Premier League title next season.
