From the start of the summer, there have been talks of Barcelona wanting to get rid of a defender so that they can balance their books and according to the latest reports, Andreas Christensen could be that man.
Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde have been linked with several clubs but it seems like Hansi Flick wants to get rid of Christensen before deadline day. And if the rumours are correct then Barca are demanding just €25 million for the central defender.
Andreas Christensen joined Barcelona from Chelsea in 2022 as a free agent and in these two years, the defender has featured in 75 games for the club across all competitions. Last season, he was an important part of the squad playing 30 La Liga matches but due to the urgent need for funds, Barcelona have decided to put him up for sale.
Are Newcastle United going to make a move for Andreas Christensen?
Newcastle United need a new centre-back and they have been strongly linked with Andreas Christensen. According to Caught Offside, the Magpies plan to make contact with Barcelona very soon and this €25 million price tag will give them even more hope.
Christensen is very clear about his future and he does not want to leave Barcelona this summer but Barcelona need to clear their books and if Newcastle are ready to pay up then they will definitely send him packing.
The 28-year-old had joined Barcelona as a free agent which means if they can sell Andreas Christensen for €25 million then that amount will be marked as 100% profit in the books.
Newcastle United have made four signings this transfer window but they are yet to bring in a central defender and because they will miss out on Marc Guehi, someone like Christensen will be the ideal alternative.
Andreas Christensen is vastly experienced when it comes to the Premier League because the centre-back has played 161 games for Chelsea before heading to Spain. Also, his current market value is €40 million and his contract with the Catalans expires in 2026 so signing him for €25 million will be a great bit of business for the Magpies.
