Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold will be in hot demand at the end of the 2024/25 season because LaLiga giants Real Madrid as well as Barcelona are interested in signing the England defender.
The 26-year-old has been a constant figure for Liverpool since making his senior debut in 2016 but his contract with the club is set to expire at the end of this season and he is yet to officially agree to a new deal.
While Liverpool are confident that Trent will put pen on paper to a new and improved deal, with each passing month, things are getting tense and nervy.
Real Madrid have been a longstanding admirer of the England international and in recent months, Barcelona have also been heavily linked with him. The new-look Barca side under Hansi Flick are playing superbly and next summer, they will definitely have renewed ambitions in the transfer market. However, if the latest reports are to be believed, Flick is not interested in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Should Barcelona reconsider their decision on Trent?
Barcelona do not want TAA because his style does not complement that of Lamine Yamal and apparently, that’s the main reason why the Blaugrana do not want to invest in him.
Flick currently has Jules Kounde as his primary right-back with 18-year-old Hector Fort as the backup and both of them have been really impressive this season.
Kounde has featured in 13 LaLiga games this season with an average rating of 7.26 out of 10 while young Fort has played 190 minutes of league football.
Barcelona might be sitting at the top of the league table but they still have to patch up many problematic areas in their squad. The club will need to bring in a top striker to replace the ageing Lewandowski and Flick will also want a new midfielder for the next season. In such a scenario, there’s no need for Barca to go for someone like Trent Alexander-Arnold.
If he does not sign a new deal then Trent will be available for free but the England international will demand a huge salary package plus Barcelona will have to go head-on with Real Madrid.
It does not make sense for Flick’s team to go into such an unnecessary battle, that too with a club like Real Madrid.
Is Trent on his way to Real Madrid?
Carvajal’s injury has once again shown the need for Real Madrid to bring in a world-class right-back and most experts believe that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be that player.
Madrid have been keeping tabs on the Liverpool full-back for close to a year and Florentino Perez is hopeful that Trent will reject a new deal in the hopes of regular silverware.
Madrid won’t mind offering a premium wage package to the 26-year-old but it will be one hell of a task to lure him out of his childhood club.
Many thought that Trent Alexander-Arnold would struggle under the new manager however, the right-back has featured in all 11 Premier League games under Arne Slot. In 15 appearances this season, he is yet to score a goal and he’s provided only a single assist but he is a consistent starter for Liverpool and there is no way the manager will want to lose him after just a single campaign.
Real Madrid have the finances and the lure to attract a player like Trent Alexander-Arnold but if Liverpool go on to win a major silverware this season, it will be next to impossible for Perez to get his hands on the England international.
