As per a report in SportBild, Barcelona are about to face competition from Manchester United and Liverpool in the pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong.

Jeremie Frimpong has had a wonderful season with Leverkusen but he’s been tipped to leave Germany this summer primarily because he has a release clause of just €40 million. Barcelona have been long-term admirers of the full-back and a few weeks ago, even Manchester United’s name was being linked with him.

However, it seems like Manchester United have no registered concrete interest in the 23-year-old along with arch-rivals Liverpool who are looking to rehaul their defence under new manager Arne Slot.

Is Jeremie Frimpong worth the hype?

Frimpong is primarily a right-sided midfielder but under Xabi Alonso, he has been playing as a right wing-back and so far he’s excelled in this role.

This season, he has played in 47 games for Leverkusen and he has 26 goal contributions which include 14 goals. He has a passing accuracy of 81% along with an xA of 5.44.

He is great with the ball at his feet and in 31 Bundesliga games, he’s been dispossessed only 37 times.

As per a detailed analysis by Breaking the Lines, Jeremie Frimpong is a great dribbler who “doesn’t only use his pace to get past opposition defenders, but he also has the creativity and quick feet to complete take-ons, much like a traditional winger”.

Will Barcelona be able to land the 23y/o or is he on his way to England?

Some rumours have suggested that Barcelona have already made an offer for Jeremie Frimpong but that is much lower than his €40 million release clause.

Also, his current release clause has expired on June 14 which means if Barcelona now wish to challenge the two Premier League giants then they will have to break the bank.

Frimpong’s market value is €50 million and he has four more years remaining on his contract. Once that release clause has expired then Leverkusen will quote all sorts of crazy figures which only Man United or Liverpool can afford to pay at the moment.

It won’t be a surprise if the German side asks for around €80-90 million for Jeremie Frimpong and if that is the case then it’s going to be impossible for Barca to pay such figures.

Manchester United and Liverpool will also think twice before paying such a premium for the 23-year-old but if he is willing to come back to England then a deal can be struck.
