Serie A giants Inter Milan have joined FC Barcelona in the race to sign midfielder Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool this summer, according to a report by Mundo Deportivo.

The report claims(as translated): “Wijnaldum is a footballer to the liking of Ronald Koeman, knowing in addition to the financial difficulties of the Barça club, that he should not pay a transfer. …Italian journalist Nicolò Schira, specialized in market issues, provides figures on the possible contract of the Dutchman: three seasons and a gross salary of eight million euros.

“The inability to pay for a transfer impeded the offensive last summer by Wijnaldum, who has also been sparing in words about Koeman’s interest in taking over his services.

“Waiting for a final summit to address the strategy for Barça’s 2021-22 hires, the Dutch medium has also attracted Inter Milan, which wants to strengthen itself further with a view to the next edition of the Champions League having the ‘scudetto’ very faced by leading Juventus by 10 points with 11 games to go.”

Which club will Gini Wijnaldum be playing for next season?

Jurgen Klopp has been trying really hard to make the midfielder agree on a new deal with Liverpool but it seems like Gini Wijnaldum is not too keen to remain at Anfield any longer.

And the prospect of signing him as a free agent seems to have interested Inter Milan as well.

Barcelona, up until now, were leading a one-horse race to sign Wijnaldum but the interest from the Italian side is sure to spice things up a bit in the coming weeks.

Inter Milan are more than capable of paying a hefty salary to the 30-year-old but they know for a fact that Gini Wijnaldum wants to reunite with Ronald Koeman at Barcelona and this sentiment is something that will be very hard to break down.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, Klopp is sure to miss the services of Wijnaldum next season but the manager has ample backup in the form of Fabinho, Thiago and James Milner to not worry about his midfield too much – at least for the 2021-22 season.
