Liverpool midfielder Thiago is set to be ruled out of action for around six weeks and according to The Athletic, the Reds are looking at Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic as his replacement.

Thiago picked up a hamstring injury during the draw against Fulham and after initials scans, it has been reported that the Spanish’s injury is not a minor one.

Immediately after the Fulham game, Jurgen Klopp made it very clear that he is not going to make any sort of panic buys because he has plenty of good and reliable midfielders but with this interest in Brozovic, it looks like the Liverpool boss has taken a sharp u-turn.

“I know what will now come up, it’s clear. We said we don’t need a midfielder because we have enough – and we actually have enough, but the problem now is we get punished for something that is not our responsibility really because things like this can happen,” Klopp had said on Saturday, as quoted.

“Nobody could imagine that Curtis gets the thing he gets; it is nothing serious but he is a young boy and it is a kind of stress reaction. Bodies are like this.

“Naby is only ill and he will now be back definitely next week again. Oxlade happened early and now with Thiago that is, of course, not good and we will see.

“We have midfielders, we have still enough midfielders. It is not that we lack midfielders, but it’s just some of them are injured. This is not a good situation, I don’t like it at all, but we have to see how we react on that – but for sure not panicking.”

Is Brozovic a good idea for Liverpool?

Marcelo Brozovic has been with Inter Milan since 2015 and last season, he played in 35 league games for the Italian side. Initially, he was on loan and then made the move permanent in the summer of 2016.

Last campaign, he made more accurate passes (2382) than any other player in Serie A and while he is no doubt a very reliable athlete but the 29-year-old is not as creative-minded as Thiago.

Thiago has been the deep-lying play-maker for Liverpool since joining then from Bayern Munich but Brozovic’s style is very different. While he has a great passing ability, we doubt if he the 29-year-old can control the tempo of a game much like Thiago.

However, the Inter Milan man is in no way going to be a bad signing for Liverpool because he’s played close to 300 games for the Serie A side.

He is valued at £36 million and his current contract expires in 2026 so bringing in on board won’t be a walk in the park, more so because he’s being eyed as a temporary backup for Thiago.
