Are Man City likely to take this massive gamble vs PSG in the second leg?

Man City take on PSG in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final this week and they come into this home match, having won the first leg 2-1 in Paris.

The two away goals could prove to be the game-changer for Man City on Tuesday night since the onus is now on PSG to come up with the goods at the Etihad Stadium. And this has led many to believe that Guardiola’s side could be a lot less adventurous when the Parisians come to town.

It should not be a big surprise if Man City tread with a lot more caution on Tuesday night but speaking ahead of the match, defender John Stones has made it clear that his side will look to play their natural game in the second leg.

“It’s a big occasion for us as players and the club. A chance to get to the final of the Champions League,” Stones told the press earlier this week.

“We go into the game tomorrow to win it. That’s our mindset over the past five years I’ve been here. Be who we are, playing the way we do. If it doesn’t work out, we can hold our heads high and know we’ve been ourselves and shown our identity.

“We have to go into the game how we left off in the second half in Paris. It was a great result for us coming away from Paris with two away goals. We are excited for the challenge ahead. We have to be confident in our ability to do it again.

“We have to attack the game as we would any other game – to go out and win. We’ve never gone into a game thinking we need to sit there, the job’s done and we need to defend.

“It’s a downward spiral if we go into the game like that. We need be who we are, play as Man City and as players we are excited for that. We are definitely fully focused on the job in hand.

“(The second half display in Paris) gave us a massive confidence boost definitely. The character we showed to come from behind is something not easy to do. We felt great pride and satisfaction after that victory. Those sort of moments are big moments, especially in the Champions League. It’s something we can thrive off of in this next 90 minutes tomorrow.

“It was a huge victory and the resilience, belief and character we showed in Paris is something you can’t always put your finger on why it happened. It came from the players as a collective. We have a lot of confidence tomorrow and hopefully we can get the job done and make it to the final.”

Man City are never that sort of a side who will look to sit back and defend and then look to counter-attack. And this second leg vs PSG is going to be no different.

Pep Guardiola, like in most of his big games, is going to deploy a false-nine system with someone like Kevin De Bruyne playing in that role and this would help Man City control the rhythm of the match.

But having said all this, the main focus will still be on players like John Stones and Ruben Dias to see if they can keep Neymar and Mbappe quiet or not.
