Man United could make their first panic buy in the form of this ex-West Ham forward: Has it gotten this bad?

Man United are interested in signing former West Ham United centre-forward Marko Arnautovic, as per The Athletic.

Erik ten Hag is desperate to add a new forward to his squad before the transfer window shuts down and after Sunday’s loss to Brighton, United are being linked with the current Bologna striker.

The report claims: “Manchester United are interested in bringing Marko Arnautovic back to the Premier League and have made an €8 million (£6.8m, $8.1m) bid for the Bologna forward, The Athletic understands.”

This news has also been backed by Fabrizio Romano, who’s quoted Arnautovic’s brother who’s admitted that a ‘well-known club’ wants to sign the 33-year-old.

Romano has tweeted: “It’s true that there’s a bid from a well-known club. I’m in contact with Bologna to see if that can be realised.”

Are Man United really interested in signing Marko Arnautovic?

Marko Arnautovic played for West Ham United from 2017 to 2019 and during that time, he scored 22 goals in 65 appearances.

His time with the Hammers was not particularly a disaster but if he’s the one who’s going to replace Ronaldo, then Manchester United are in big trouble.

After he left West Ham, he spent time with Shanghai Port before joining Bologna last summer and for the Italians, he’s scored only 15 goals in 34 games.

Anthony Martial’s injury has completely exposed United’s thin forward line so ETH needs to bring in a world-class forward asap. There’s still a big chance that Ronaldo is going to leave and if he does then Manchester United’s forward line will be a complete mess.

The club has also been linked with young Benjamin Sesko and the Salzburg man will be a much more sensible option than Arnautovic.

Maybe, Erik ten Hag can sign the 33-year-old as the backup striker but there’s no way the manager can rely on him to lead the line alongside Martial or Ronaldo. He’s someone who will chip in with maybe five or ten goals during the season but there’s no way he can produce 25-30 goals.

Honestly, we think Man United are just looking at Marko Arnautovic as the backup plan because there’s no way Ten Hag will want him as his main number nine.
